Our Services

Fisher, Quarmby & Pfeifer offer full legal services in all areas of the law including general commercial law. Our general law practice covers a broad range of services with particular emphasis on real estate and property law, labour law, 3rd personal injury claims insurance law, High Court litigation, conveyancing and estate administration, wills and probate including formation and administration of trusts.

Our intellectual property law practice includes patents, trade marks, copy-right and registered designs. We receive process and prosecute applications for patents, trade marks and registered designs from outside Namibia and prepare specifications and applications for filing in Namibia. Furthermore, we handle litigation involving the defence and enforcement of intellectual property rights. We have our own renewal systems, mostly electronic, for maintaining patents, registered designs and trade marks.

To assist with referrals to our firm we provide a few important guidelines.

The concept of Roman Dutch Law with influences from English law of South Africa and augmented by Namibian traditional laws today apply to Namibia.

Since Independence Namibia remained part of the South African Rand monetary area, however has its own currency, being the Namibia Dollar (N$). The Bank of Namibia regulates all commercial banks in terms of the Bank of Namibia Act of 1997 (Act 15 of 1997) and the Banking Institutions Act of 1998 (Act 2 of 1998).

Various business entities can be created, under statute law, the usual public and private companies and close corporations and under common law, i.e. foundations, trusts and partnerships.

Any person intending to become active in business or any other enterprise require a work permit from the Namibian authorities.

Foreign investments are encouraged in Namibia and are regulated by the Foreign Investment Act of 1990 (Act 27 of 1990).

Labour relations are regulated at present by the Labour Act of 1992 (Act 6 of 1992), but an updated and reviewed law is in the pipeline.
